How it works

How FS Pro for Word helps you to build documentation people and AI can use and trust.

  1. Structure.  Build explicit structures with Maps, Blocks and Information Types. Easy for people to digest, easy for AI agents to search.
  2. Label. Use clear Map Titles and Block Labels to help both people and AI agents navigate your document better and faster.
  3. Standardize. Use built-in tables, templates and styles to keep every document consistent.
  4. Reuse. Save Maps, Blocks, and tables once and reuse them in other documents.
  5. Share. Save as Word or PDF or turn your document into an online format with the Publish feature. Responsive for any device.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need FS Pro when I use Copilot?
  • Copilot creates content from what already exists. It drafts, rewrites, and summarizes information, but it does not enforce a content standard or ensure consistency across documents.
  • AI Mapper automatically transforms Copilot generated documents according to the Information Mapping Method.
  • FS Pro for Word allows authors to easily apply the Information Mapping Method to create structured, consistent, reusable, and AI-ready documents from the start.
Which versions of Word does FS Pro work with?

FS Pro for Word runs on Windows with Microsoft 365 (desktop Word), Word 2024, 2021, 2019, 2016 and 2013. There is no native Mac version; on a Mac it runs through a Windows emulator with Word for Windows installed.

Do I need training to use FS Pro?

FS Pro guides you with templates, built-in structures with Maps and Blocks, and Information Types. But teams that take Information Mapping® training get the most out of the software. See our training options.

What is the difference between FS Pro Standard and Business?

FS Pro Business adds unlimited online publications on a shared platform, user levels and approval workflows, and the Target-Based Manager. FS Pro Standard includes up to 5 online publications on a personal platform.

Is there a free trial?

Yes: 30 days for FS Pro for Word, and for FS Pro AI Assistant, no credit card required. You need the FS Pro for Word trial to test FS Pro AI Assistant.

Does FS Pro send my documents to an AI service?

Not unless you use the AI Assistant. FS Pro for Word Standard and Business process documents locally and never send content to AI. The FS Pro AI Assistant sends text only when you trigger an AI action, over an encrypted connection to privately deployed models on Microsoft Azure; nothing is retained or used for training.

Is there research behind the Information Mapping® Method?

Yes. Independent research found that readers work more effectively and efficiently with long documents written using the Information Mapping® Method (Jansen et al.). Earlier studies reported 55-60% fewer errors and 25-50% less training time (County of San Diego, 1995; summarized in The Information Mapping® Method: 30 Years of Research, 1999).

How is FS Pro licensed?

Per user, monthly or yearly (1, 2 or 3 years), with volume discounts starting at 5 users. Licenses are managed in the FS Pro Console.
